Criminal charges against people who contravenes quarantine regulations

COVID 19 positive patient forced into mandatory isolation

The Mpumalanga Department of Health enforces mandatory isolation to a COVID 19 positive patient who contravened the self-isolation regulation.

The Department of Health says they have received a report from the community about a COVID-19 patient who was spotted at a local tavern at Tweefontein K in Thembisile Hani Local Municipality interacting with community members while he should be on self-isolation at his home.

The patient tested positive for COVID-19 on the 30th of June 2020.

According to the department, the individual has been taken to one of the Departmental isolation sites to ensure that he does not put his life and the lives of others at risk.

“The Department of Health takes the COVID-19 pandemic very seriously and will press criminal charges against any person who intentionally contravenes the quarantine and isolation regulations”

The MEC for Health Sasekani Manzini has strongly condemned the behavior of this patient.

“It is very unfortunate that there are still people who do not see the seriousness of this pandemic and contravene regulations at a time when the province has started recording deaths as a result of COVID-19,” said Manzini in a press statement.

“We plead with our people to continue protecting themselves and one another by following the precautionary measures of washing our hands for 20 seconds, use a sanitizer, wear a mask and maintain a social distance.”
