Young girls targeted by traditional healers

A 6 year-old Bontle Mashiyane from Mganduzweni near Whiteriver, Mpumalanga has been found dead.

Mashiyane has been missing for a month now when she was last seen with a man named Collen Hlongwane has been found dead.

Her body was found dumped near her home. Her mother says Bontle’s body was mutilated.

No one has yet been arrested. The Mpumalanga police have launched a man hunt.

The suspect Collen Hlongwane, who was last seen talking with the girl on April 30, was allegedly arrested on Friday along with another man. The two allegedly pointed out to the police where Bontle’s body was dumped.

Hlongwane is a convicted murderer and was also out on parole. He has been targeted by the police in connection with the disappearance of a six-year-old girl.

News source revealed that on Friday and Saturday he and another man were arrested respectively.

They allegedly showed the police on Saturday where the lifeless body of Bontle was found mutilated.

Spokesperson for the Mpumalanga police, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala confirmed the arrests but said provincial commissioner Lt-Gen Semakaleng Manamela would speak on the matter at a later stage.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela is expected to visit the family of 6-year-old Bontle Zethu Ditebogo Mashiyane in Mganduzweni.

Meanwhile, the Premier Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane will also lead an entourage of mourners.

“Mpumalanga Premier, Ms Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane will visit the bereaved family of the slain girl, Bontle Zethu Mashiyane, tomorrow. Mashiyane went missing last month. This will be a second visit by the Premier to the family for support, since the girl was reported missing,” said Office of the Premier in a statement.

The entourage includes MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe and senior government officials.
