Liquid Fruit warning- drinks recalled after glass shards found in drinking cans

An investigation has been launched by Pioneer Foods after glass particles were found in cans of Liqui Fruit.

The red grape flavoured drink was recalled on shelves after three consumers found small bits of glass in the drink.

“Pioneer Foods has received reports of small shards of glass in a single batch of our Liqui Fruit Red Grape still 330ml cans.
The investigation as to the root cause and extent of the issue is underway but as a precautionary measure, we are conducting a product recall of a particular single batch of Liqui Fruit Red Grape 330ml cans – with the following product and best before details”.

“This is a potential food safety issue, so if you have purchased any of the above mentioned products, please do not consume the product. Please return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Please do not dispose of the product it must be returned to the retailer”.

The Acting Consumer Commissioner, Thezi Mabuza said while we have not received a full notification in terms of the product safety recall guidelines, Pioneer Foods is still conducting an investigation into the extent of the issue.

“The information we have is that there are glass particles found in the product and this poses a health risk to consumers if consumed. We urge consumers who bought this product to stop consuming it immediately and return it back to the retailer of purchase for a full refund” said Mabuza.

“The NCC will upon receipt of the official notice monitor the recall of this product”.
