More houses to burn down amid Loadshedding

More houses have reportedly been burned down amid loadshedding across the country.

On Monday 4 July morning, a family lost four children simultaneously, and two sets of twins were burned beyond recognition.

The Police in Mpumalanga said they were called to the scene where a shack was on fire at Markana Informal Settlement in Hendrina. When they arrived, they found that the children were burned beyond recognition, and firefighters were also called to extinguish the fire.

We are saddened by an incident in which two sets of twins, aged eight (8) and thirteen (13) were burned to death in the early hour of today, Monday 04 July 2022.

Said police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala

Police said when they arrived on the scene, the two sets of twins (two boys and two girls) were unfortunately certified dead.

It is not yet confirmed what might be the cause of the fire but loose cables were visible on the ground, which prompt a suspicion that there may have been an illegal connection of electricity

In a statement, police further alleged that the mother (33) of the children is an undocumented Mozambican National, she allegedly left the children three days ago in the care of the 17-year-old brother. Police said when the fire broke out, the brother tried to save them but couldn’t as the fire was already at an advanced stage.

The mother and the 17-year-old boy have been taken to hospital in Middelburg as they are in a state of shock. Police have registered an inquest and the investigation is ongoing.

Police said it is not yet confirmed as to what could be the cause of the fire, however, there were loose cables on the ground which is suspected that there might be illegal connections.
