Two health officials arrested for being in possession of body parts

Two health officials have been suspended by the Health Department in Mpumalanga after being arrested for possession of human body parts which include a leg, knee, and placenta.

The Mpumalanga Department says the officials aged 45 and 49 were stationed at Ermelo Hospital and Lothair Clinic in Gert Sibande District were arrested on 05 July 2020.

Details of their criminal acts have not yet been disclosed as the police are busy with an investigation.

The MEC for Health in Mpumalanga, Sasekani Manzini expressed shock at the allegations of the duo’s criminal acts.

“We are very shocked and dismayed at the criminal activities that the two officials have allegedly been involved with. Such dehumanizing acts are indeed barbaric and as a Department, we do not condone such illegal activities. We shall allow the law to take its course whilst we as a Department conduct our own internal investigation,” said Manzini.

Manzini added that the two officials have been suspended to allow the SAPS to conduct their investigation without any interference.
